Gossip blogger Edgar Obare has been charged with publishing personal information about Kenyan YouTuber Natalie Wanjiru, alias Natalie Tewa.

Obare, who was arrested by detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) in Kisumu on Friday, was arraigned at Kiambu Law Courts on Monday.

He was charged with unlawful disclosure of data contrary to section 72(3) (b) as read with section 73 of the Data Protection Act, 2019.

The charge sheet read that Obare committed the offense on diverse dates between the 9th day of July 2020, and the 13th day of July 2020 at an unknown place within the Republic of Kenya.

It added that he used social media accounts, domain name www.bnn.ke, and verified Instagram account @edgarobare to unlawfully disclose to his online followers personal data to wit visa belonging to one Natalie Wanjiru Githinji without her consent.

The accused pleaded not guilty to the charge and was released on a cash bail of Sh100,000.

In his post, Obare alleged that Natalie was aboard a chartered private jet that flew Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho and Suna East MP Junet Mohamed on July 9th to Dubai to visit ODM leader Raila Odinga.

Odinga had undergone a minor surgery at a top German hospital in the UAE capital.
