Results for individuals who participated in last year’s green card (Diversity Visa) lottery will be available online starting on May 5th, 2020.
Those who participated in the DV-2021 lottery that ran between October 2, 2019 and November 5, 2019 can check if they won starting at 12pm EDT on Tuesday, May 5th, 2020 on the Electronic Diversity Visa Lottery page.
Entrants will be required to provide the confirmation number they received in their email after they registered for the lottery, in addition to their name and date of birth.
The Diversity Visa program provides 50,000 to nationals of countries with low immigration rates to the United States in the previous five years. For DV-2021, the following countries were ineligible based on this rule: Bangladesh, Brazil, Canada, China (mainland-born), Colombia, Dominican Republic, El Salvador, Guatemala, Haiti, India, Jamaica, Mexico, Nigeria, Pakistan, Philippines, South Korea, United Kingdom and its dependent territories (except Northern Ireland), and Vietnam.[
Winners of the lottery are required to pass an interview at a consular office (if living outside the US) or at a US Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) field office (if living in the US) and also pass a background check before being granted a permanent resident visa (green card) that allows them to live and work permanently in the US.
Recently, the Trump administration banned Tanzania and Sudan from participating in the Diversity Visa program, saying the two countries failed to meet minimum security requirements.
