Results of the 2021 Diversity Visa program (DV-2021), popularly known as the Green Card lottery, are now available online.

Individuals who entered the lottery during the open registration period that ran between October 2nd, 2019 and November 5th, 2019 can now check if they are among the approximately 55,000 winners of the lottery, which gives them a chance to migrate to the United States as permanent residents.

Those who participated in the lottery registration last year can check if they are among the lucky winners will be required to provide their confirmation number, last/family name, and birth year at the following link: https://dvprogram.state.gov/ESC/(S(3ue1pd1gcj4gbmgyb4ji5f5v))/CheckStatus.aspx.

The results became available online on Saturday, June 6th, 2020 at 12pm EDT.

The Diversity Visa program was established in in the Immigration Act of 1990 and is run by the State Department in a bid to make the immigrant population of the United States more diverse - by making 55,000 permanent resident visas available on a lottery basis to nationals of countries with low immigration rates to the United States.  Each year prior to the beginning on the open registration period, the State Department announces countries that have had over 50,000 immigrants to the US in the last five years and makes nationals of those countries ineligible to participate in the lottery.

For DV-2021, nationals of the following countries were not eligible to participate in the program because they had a higher rate of immigration to the US than the 50,000 annual threshold: Bangladesh, Brazil, Canada, China (mainland-born), Colombia, Dominican Republic, El Salvador, Guatemala, Haiti, India, Jamaica, Mexico, Nigeria, Pakistan, Philippines, South Korea, United Kingdom (except Northern Ireland) and its dependent territories, and Vietnam.

Kenyan nationals were eligible to participate in the DV-2021 lottery.

Winners of DV-2021 will be rehired to pass background checks, health screening and interviews at a US embassy or consulate before they can migrate to the United States as green card holders in 2021. The spouse and minor children are eligible to migrate to the US with the lottery winner, as long as they were listed in the registration form.
