Murang’a Governor Mwangi wa Iria on Thursday became the only incumbent governor to win Jubilee nomination in the former Central Province.

Mwangi beat his rival Kigumo MP Jamleck Kamau by garnering 205,941 votes against Jamleck’s 118,274 votes.

The other Central Kenya governors failed their bids.

In Kiambu County, William Kabogo lost to Kabete MP Ferdinand Waititu.

Former Head of Civil Service Francis Kimemia ousted incumbent Daniel Wathika in Nyandarua County.

In Nyeri County, Dr Wahome Gakuru defeated Governor Samuel Wamathai. Wamathai only took over the county governorship in February following the death of former governor Nedritu Gachagua.

In Kirinyaga County, elective politics newcomer and former Devolution Cabinet Secretary Anne Waiguru defeated incumbent governor Joseph Ndathi.

Kembi Gitura loses, Sabina Chege wins

Meanwhile Kembi Gitura lost his bid to retain his Murang’a Senate seat on a Jubilee ticket to current Kiharu MP Irungu Kangata. Irungu Kangata won with 158,167 votes, with Kembi Gitura garnering 146,207.

Sabina Chege beat her rival, media personality Waithira Muithirania to keep her bid to reclaim the Murang’a Women Repesentative seat alive.
