A Kenya Airways female employee is among two suspects arrested in Nairobi on Monday with narcotic drugs allegedly imported from the United States.
Detectives said the drugs were sent to the country from the US with the package indicating Marcus White of Catalina Street, Los Angeles as the sender while the consignee was identified as Jared Amolo in Nairobi, according to The Standard.
The drugs, which were in the form of cookies, included processed marijuana, lemon cakes, dabwood exotic, sativa carts, chocolope cannabis and dozens of other flavors.
Detectives established that the package was collected from the General Post Office (GPO) in Nairobi by a Post office employee instead of Mr. Amolo, the consignee.
On Monday evening, anti-drug officers acting on a tip-off arrested two suspects at the Barclays Sports Club in Nairobi.
The two suspects had just arrived in a white saloon car at around 8.40 pm to pick the box containing the aforementioned drugs from one of the halls at the Barclays Sports Club.
The two suspects were identified as Monica Wanda Anyango, a Kenya Airways employee and Vicky Awiti, the driver of the salon car.
Detectives are trying to establish the link between the traffickers and James Njenga Kihato, the grandson to the late powerful Kenyan Cabinet minister Njenga Karume. This was after it emerged that the suspects were in constant communication with Njenga.
Anyango and Awiti were arraigned at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) court on Tuesday, where police were allowed to hold them for five days to allow completion of investigations.
