Kenya Airways on Friday announced the suspension of flights to Guangzhou, China over coronavirus fears.
The announcement came hours after the World Health Organization (WHO) declared the deadly virus a global emergency.
KQ had earlier refused to halt China flights despite other international airlines such as British Airways, American Airlines, Air France, Air Canada, Air Asia, Air India and Finland’s Finnair suspending operations to the Asian country.
“Further to our prior communication regarding the current Coronavirus outbreak, we have temporarily suspended all flights to and from Guangzhou starting Friday, 31st January 2020, until further notice. We, however, clarify that our service between Nairobi and Bangkok remains operational,” read a statement from KQ on Friday.
“Our consultation with the Ministries of Health and Foreign Affairs will continue and we will provide updates as the situation develops. We apologize to all our customers for the inconvenience and reaffirm that the safety of our customers and staff remains our highest priority.”
The death toll from Coronavirus climbed to 213 on Thursday after more than 40 victims – all of them in Hubei, the province at the center of the outbreak– died.

No. We have to wait until 'our' masters...US and the like, do so. We are only a copy-cat country without *alls of our own...we are owned.
It’s about time!
Why wait until a case is reported in Kenya? For Ebola, the suspension of flights to West Africa was immediate. For China, we have to wait until the disease is diagnosed in Kenya? Terrible!
