President Kenyatta has led the nation in mourning the death of Matungu MP Justus Murunga Makokha.

Murunga is said to have collapsed at him home in Matungu and died while being rushed to St. Mary’s Mission Hospital in Mumias, Kakamega on Saturday evening.

His death came a day after he was discharged from the Aga Khan Hospital in Kisumu where he had been admitted for about one week for Covid-19 and diabetes treatment.

His cousin Musa Ekaya said the MP was discharged after doctors gave him a clean bill of health having returned negative Covid-19 results.

In a message of condolence to the family, relatives, friends, and Matungu constituents, Uhuru eulogized Murunga as a diligent and industrious servant of the people who dedicated his energy to improving the welfare of Matungu residents.

“In this hour of sorrow, I convey my deepest sympathies and heartfelt condolences to Hon Murunga’s family, relatives, and the people of Matungu Constituency. My thoughts and prayers are with you,” said Uhuru.

Deputy President William Ruto said the first-time MP was a “hardworking and visionary leader who relentlessly advocated for the empowerment of the people.”
