Kisumu Governor Peter Anyang’ Nyong’o has outlawed any unauthorized protests in the city, noting that hooligans have taken advantage of the situation to loot and destroy property.
Nyong’o has said that no demonstrations will be allowed in Kisumu without prior authorization from the county government and Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party leaders from the region. Nyong’o termed as criminal actions youths who block roads, loot from locals and pelted vehicles with stones during opposition protests.
“Who are these people taking decisions without the party - ODM - directing them yet we have party leadership led by myself in this county?” he asked.
The Governor said that demonstrations must conform to legal guidelines and called on police to deal with those out to take advantage of such events to loot and vandalize property.
“We’ve told the police to deal with anybody putting stones on the road. Anybody molesting a dweller residing in Kisumu will be treated as a criminal,” Nyong’o warned.
Nyong'os action comes after investors in Kisumu expressed concerns over the increasingly hostile business environment occasioned by chaotic demonstrations.
Kisumu has been one of the violence hotspots in recent months as a result of heightened political activities during the electioneering period.

Throwing stones & rioting is in their DNA. They will not stop. Note my words
FINally you have some common sense. You are the governor and not Raila. You name will be on record not Raila. Bwana governor it's about time you acted to the best interest of luos leaving in kisumu.. fake Joshua should not destroy your city. Work with the government and bring projects same as the in one in kirinyaga
Perhaps the boycott has finally reached their pocket books. I imagine that hotel cancellations, lawsuits by businesses and potential jail terms for their leaders is unwelcome. It also sounds like a ploy to detract international attention from the systematic, directed and deliberate use of chaos! This is an attempt to disown criminal acts planned and executed with their sponsorship and supervision. Why should anyone planning to break the criminal or civil code ask ODM for permission????SHAME SHAME! Rip what you sowed! Shaken together, pressed down and overflowing. May you be fully exposed for what you are: Wicked.
As I munch on my turkey leg, I am gratified to see common sense finally prevail. It took you, Anyang, too long to make that call. Now you have realized that a tacit approval of violent means of expressing political opinions only leads to the destruction of our good Kisumu and Nyanza in general. As the governor, the buck stops with you. Unshackle yourself from Baba's defeatists ways and chart your on path. Lead Kisumu to prosperity.
Kwani kwenu mnakula turkey mapema aje, I'm yet to start mine in a few lol ... keeping it Kenyan time :-). Happy thanksgiving MaragA.
Asante and happy thanksgiving! Turkey ilikuwa kwa oven I was only eating the herufu at that time.
When will Mwakilishi outlaw Guest1, Doreen and that fake Njeri chick from pelting the rest of us with stones, I mean outrageous words and verbal attacks? It's about time they did this somewhere else. teee heee heee
Truth be told it's not possible to have peaceful demos in kisumu and Nyanza in general.
Well done Nyong'o people should respect their country
Good, hard and timely lessons learnt here. However, do not outlaw lawlessness and violent demos in Kisumu only to transplant it in Nairobi-as the good governor was quoted in another outlet.
After realizing capital flight and revenue dwindling as mentioned elsewhere, he now succumbs. Yes choices have consequences...
So atlast you have accepted what every right thinking Kenyan has been saying, that Raila only brings his criminal goons yo rob and haras people. When police intervene they pelt them with stones forcing police to use force to protect law abiding citizens. When this happens then the cry starts, ohh our people are being massacred, ohh why are luos being killed by the government? Now igg is one of your own who has said it. Rusheni mawe mbasi
