You Are Our Ambassadors, Kalonzo Tells Kenyans in China

Vice President Kalonzo Musyoka has urged Kenyans living in China to promote their country and project its image positively. Addressing the Kenyan community at the Kenyan embassy in Beijing during celebrations to mark the 49th Madaraka Day celebrations on Friday, Mr Musyoka said he was pleased with their work ethic and professionalism. He urged those still seeking employment to remain patient and observe the rule of law.

"As we seek to sort out some of the problems facing you here, I wish to remind you, and other Kenyans in the Diaspora, that you are our ambassadors in the countries where you live and work,” said Mr Musyoka.

The VP had earlier addressed Kenyan students in Jiangsu province where he urged them to continue being good ambassadors to their motherland.

He said the Diaspora Kenyans had done well to promote strong relations between the two countries.

Mr Musyoka expressed confidence that the country would host peaceful, fair and democratic elections next year and urged Kenyans including those in the Diaspora to vote in leaders at the forefront of uniting the country.

He said that Higher Education Loans Board (HELB) should explore ways and means of ensuring that students in foreign land also benefited from loans and bursaries.

The VP, who held talks with senior executives of key Chinese multinationals ranging from food production, engineering and construction, telecommunications, aviation and motor vehicle manufacturing, secured firm commitment of investments in various sectors of Kenya's economy.

As he concluded his one week official tour of China, Mr Musyoka urged Chinese and Kenyan investors to explore investment opportunities in the two countries.

He said Kenyan and Chinese investors should take advantage of the cordial relations between the two countries to explore business opportunities.

Speaking during a tour of Foton factory and Avic international company, Mr Musyoka urged China to consider investing in the flagship project earmarked for development under LAPSSET project in Lamu.

He said the project is intended to revitalise the economies of regional countries such as Ethiopia and South Sudan.

The VP is expected back in the country on Sunday.
