Meet Jared Okeyo: A Kenyan Fashion Model Based in the United States

Jared Okeyo

Born in Kisii, Kenya, Jared Okeyo is an up-and-coming male fashion model who is currently based in Atlanta, Georgia, USA. Although his modeling career began only two years ago, Jared has already worked with several of the world’s leading musicians, fashion labels, and also appeared on several American Television shows. He recently spoke to Mwakilishi.com on his modeling career.

Jared attended high school in Atlanta after his parents moved to the United States.Although most of his classmates in high school complimented him on his distinctive looks and compared him to R&B singer Tyrese and actor Taye Diggs, Jared says he never considered a career in showbiz. It was not until two years ago when he met a photographer while out in a club. The photographer complimented him on is model-type looks and introduced him to the modeling and he has not looked back since.

He has worked with the likes of Rapper T.I., R&B singer Kandie, supermodel Cynthia Bailey, and also modeled for leading fashion labels Sean John, Macy’s, Akoo and Abercrombie & Fitch.

He has also featured on the Real Housewives of Atlanta on Bravo TV and the T.I. & Tiny Show on VH1.

Jared comes from a humble beginning, being born in Kisii to a Luo police officer father and a Kisii mother. The family lived in several Kenyan towns in the course of his father’s life. He believes his mixed cultural background and humble beginnings have prepared him for the challenges in the modeling industry. “Honestly this is just a humble beginning for me. I still remember where I came from so when the road ahead of me gets tough, I just remember my past life and know that I will prevail,” Jared tells Mwakilishi.com.
