It can now be confirmed that NBA superstar Dirk Nowitzki indeed got married in Kenya a few weeks ago. As Mwakilishi.com had first reported two weeks ago, Dirk and his bride Jessica Olsson were in for a Kikuyu traditional marriage ceremony known as ngurario.

Photos recently published by The Star show the couple at the event, with Jessica donned in a traditional Kikuyu garb and Dirk in a matching brown outfit. The couple got to experience the entire motions of the ceremony including plenty of songs, dance (including Mugithi), food and drinks. Jessica also got to carry the traditional kiondo as the bride-to-be usually does at such a ceremony.

The Dallas Mavericks, the NBA team which Dirk plays for, had earlier denied that such a ceremony took place.

Ngurario is a traditional Kikuyu ceremony which is meant to announce to the community of a couple engagement and also provides the relatives on both sides with an opportunity to know each other.

Jessica is born of a Kenyan mother and a Swedish father who both live in Sweden. Her two brothers, Martin and Marcus Olsson play professional football in the English Premier League. She is the associate director of the Goss-Michael Foundation art gallery based in Dallas, Texas.
