She is a keen advocate of building bridges of co-operation and promoting community prosperity by fostering a climate of social harmony and understanding. She has been an outstanding community and top level business manager. In these roles she has led strategic changes as well as growth in both public affairs and business. Like many Kenyan women aspiring for leadership roles, she has grown tired of the inertia and poor development records that deny our youth and women access to opportunity and perpetuate poverty.

As a candidate coming in from the Diaspora, Shukran tells Mwakilishi.com her training, business accomplishments and community leadership have prepared her to be a leader for prosperity and positive change. She is committed to eliminating the unending cycle of poverty by empowering the people of Garissa County and closing the developing gap through strong-willed leadership, strategic planning and advocacy towards equity and social justice. Shukran believes she is ready to be a leader for her community, a champion and a voice for women, the youth and for development. She pledges to reflect your voice and your priorities as a Women’s Representative and help build a common vision for growth and prosperity. Garissa County has real problems and real problems need real leaders to solve them!

I am running for office as the Garissa County Women’s Representative on the platform of transformative leadership. I pledge to provide strong decisive leadership towards closing the overall development disparity between Garissa County and the rest of Kenya. My priorities include the empowerment of women and the youth by increasing their voice and participation n in addressing the development challenges that impact their life chances. It is my goal and to shore up girls’ education, deal with the unemployment crisis, and lead the onslaught in infrastructure development, improvement of health services and the eradication of the poverty that has afflicted our people since independence. Under my leadership, Garissa will explore socio-economic progress through strategic partnerships I will facilitate using my established networks in Minnesota, USA and the wider international community,” says Shukran.

The writer of this article inflates Shukran's experience: the healthcare business of which she says she is half owner was started by her husband. That business is unable to consistently pay its employees, and is losing customers daily. Meanwhile, she is in Kenya ignoring the difficulties her business is having. Is this the leadership that Kenya wants?

Do you pull your children off school because your cashflow has dwindled? No, you try to go find funds. When your business fails, does that mean it is the end of the road? She is looking for greener pastures, which might fund that business and still enable her do something else.....after all, wacha akajenge kwao....there is a huge need. Most good leaders have failed in something, once or more.....

Paula this is a business that was in existence for the last nine year. I was first recommend to get service from this agency by my doctor. i was a customer for the last three years and never got any problems with my pay neither the service the agency is providing. i feel you are biased since you said that shukran experience was inflated but never talked about her experience instead jumped to the business performance. As far as ownership is concerned the business is a family business.

visit www.meoareahomecare.com and see the services the agency provides and also visit the Minnesota beter business (BBB) to check the status of this business.

Finally i can take a bullet for shukrans leadership style as one among the best leaders.

First of all I would like to congratulate Shukran for your intentions to serve this leadership role in Garissa County.

Second, I don't like when people exagerates someone achievement. Has someone verified her Minnesota Somali community leadership role and the graduate education in public health she is claiming she has from one of Minnesota University. Also what kind of "issues" has she solved for the kenya Diaspora community living in Minnesota or what leadership role has she had for these communities. What kind of women organization has she lead previouly?

If you want to run for a public office you need to be honest and have a clean start. Good luck.

Check this with St. Catherine University to prove her degree. I was a classmate.

Mashallah what a role model, may Allah lead you all the way to your goal. You are such a wonderful example to our new generation women and youth, for that reason never give up and because of that you are the leader of today and they are the leaders of tomorrow, goodluck.

The reason I raised the issue of the problems with her business is that the article says she is the managing partner in the business, and describes her as a top level business manager, yet her business has difficulty paying it's employees and it's bills. If she is the managing partner, she is responsible for the success or failure of that business.

shukran, good for you but kwanza jua wewe ni mkenya halisi sio msomali!,you should fight for your fellow kenya somalis. Most kenyan somalis have a problem telling between the two and in the end our kenyan somalis drag behind due to the corrupt and monied somalians from somalia. ITS A FACT!.

She helped my family and, I from scratch. We were new to the US and she helped as from finding a house to starting a business. So yeah she has down a great job in her Somalia community. I hope this answers your question, and maybe look on the bright side and vote for her. She is a great leader and a great role model.
