Kenya’s Ruth Matete jumped with joy and lay flat on stage moments after she was announced winner of Tusker Project Fame season 5 singing competition, bagging Sh5 million and a recording contract worth Sh10 million.
An elated Ruth, aged 26, beat four finalists on Sunday night and thanked God for her success when addressing the crowd.
Joe from Burundi was number four, followed by Jackson from Rwanda
There were moments of tension after Ruth and another Kenyan contestant, Doreen were left standing, becoming clear that one of the two will walk away with the prize.
Doreen, had come to be known as the ‘Miss Probation’, thanks to numerous consecutive nominations for probation, and surprised many that she made it to the finals.
The competition started with 15 contestants drawn from East African countries with 11 being evicted before Sunday’s finals.

I'm happy that the melodious lady won as she deserves it. I was keen with Project 5, 3 and 4 and in all I salute the winners, the instructors, the judges and the vetting group.
Though one thing I recommend to be checked before it arouses lack of trust in the future. In project five we had one of the contestants who was so weak, to be evicted on the ninth row but ended up within the top three. In Tusker Project four again the same happened, a contestant who wasnt to be among the top seven ended up among the top three, reason being Public voting. According to me if this was to be the winner, many could have lost the trust in Tusker Project competitions. Some people are good at lobbying but that does not make them melodies.
The instructors should be keen in the sense that if a contestant on probation is being voted back continuously by the public, they should not also vote for her/him like what happened in Project5.
I applaud Tusker. That is excellent marketing, corporate responsibility of nurturing talents. Ruth and Jackson deserve your recognition.
it was excellent especially doreen.
