Printer-friendly versionPDF version

A suicide bomber killed himself and injured nine others just outside the Moi Eastleigh Airbase in Nairobi's Eastleigh's area. Police believe the target were the millitary personnel, although all but one of the injured were civilian bystanders.

"The person was a suicide attacker, he blew up what we believe was a grenade and we presume he was targeting the air base perimeter," said Nicholas Kamwende, head of the CID in Nairobi.

The latest incident happens only two days after an explosion left three people dead and several others injured in the same area. That earlier incident, previously believed to have been caused by a gas cylinder explosion, has now been by classified by bomb experts as a grenade attack.
