Hon. Peter Kenneth to Dialogue With Diaspora Kenyans on Sat, August 25th
Presidential candidate, Hon. Peter Kenneth will have a Baraza with diaspora Kenyans tomorrow Saturday August 25, 2012 at 10:30am US CST [11:30am US Eastern Time; London - 04:30pm BST; Johannesburg 05:30pm SAST; Nairobi 06:30pm; Dubai 07:30pm GST; Tokyo 12:30am JST (Sunday August 26); Sydney AUS 01:30 am (Sunday August 26)].
Hon. Kenneth recognizes the immense contribution that diaspora Kenyans make to the development of their country not only monetarily (remittances are currently estimated to be $1.213 billion) but also through the provision of ideas and participation in the national socio-economic discourse.
The up-coming elections will be the first time that diaspora Kenyans will participate in voting. It is vital that their interests and concerns be addressed and that their votes count towards the election of the future leaders of Kenya. One of the key differences with diaspora Kenyans is that they are relatively free of the din that normally surrounds elections. Therefore, diaspora Kenyans can more comfortably evaluate leaders and make informed decisions which over time will encourage other Kenyans in the motherland to follow suit. The influence that diaspora Kenyans have on their relatives cannot also be gainsaid. Relatives and friends tend to listen to their relations abroad when objective criteria is used to judge future leaders.
Finally, it is critical that the needs of diaspora Kenyans be addressed. This can only happen if we take a proactive approach aimed at bringing home closer to diaspora Kenyans by removing the barriers that hinder consistent engagement and enhanced contribution towards the development of the motherland.
The area of economic development that is mutually beneficial to the Diaspora Kenyans and their motherland is a key area that must be addressed.
These and more are the issues that Hon. Kenneth will address. Please join him by:
