If you thought the recently completed Sh 400 million Vice President Residence in Karen was extravagant, then you'll probably not be happy to learn that an equally big official residence for Kenya's Chief Justice will be acquired soon as Nairobiwie.com reports.
The Judiciary has invited tenders from interested parties for the purchase of a fully furnished mansion, set to be the CJ's official residence. The tenders must be received by the end of this month. It is not clear why the judiciary chose to buy a completed house instead of constructing its own, but considering the problems encountered in building the VP's residence, including the drastic rise in cost, it may be a wise decision.
However, strict specifications must be met for the house to be put under consideration. Among them are:
At least 5 bedrooms, all en suite.* Properties having bedrooms and common rooms opening to a balcony have added advantage.

The property must also be located in a serene and secure environment, with easy access to amenities such as shopping malls and health clubs. It should also be located 8 - 12 km from the Supreme Court Building.
The property must not come with any arrears in land rates, and should comply with all city by-laws.
Currently, Willy Mutunga is a tenant of medical services minister Anyang Nyong'o.

The government should STOP this kind of waste! I hope Mr Mutunga, himself a man of reason, will object to this idea. A modest house that reasonates with other, even more pressing, priorities should suffice.
After all he can occupy the house that Ali..???ex-police boss?? occupied instead of trying to sell it for half the price it cost to build. Am I growing old or is common sense no longer common in Kenya?
