Top Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) pillar and Lands Minister James Orengo has threatened to quit the Orange party over ensuing succession battle of Siaya Senate seat.
According to a credible source, Orengo who is also the Ugenya MP said Prime Minister Raila Odinga is pushing him to drop his Senatorial bid in favour of PM elder brother Dr Oburu Odinga.
Orengo, who is running for the senate seat in Siaya County, has repeatedly said he will not step down for Odinga's brother Dr Oburu Odinga.
''Orengo feels that Odinga is pushing for direct nomination of his brother for the seat. In that case, he will leave the party, probably join The National Alliance of Uhuru Kenyatta,'' the source said.
The PM is keen to see his brother win the nomination and the senate post, the source added.
The PM family has dominated politics in Luo-Nyanza for many years. However, some dissenting voices have started to emerge, threatening to put his presidential bid in jeopardy.
Orengo has been PM Key adviser and a tough defender of the PM both inside and outside the House.
If Raila loses Orengo it will be a big blow not only to the ODM as a party but also to the PM presidential quest.
I am not supporting the idea that Raila is keen to see Oburu in office, I am more concerned with the fact that Orengo is battling for the senatorship when he didnt do much for us, his contituents with his parliamentry seat. Why should we trust you with the senatorship? He is not development concious and thats what we are looking for.
Siaya deserves a change and personally my ideal candidate is Tuju whether Orengo hops to TNA, URP or if he stays in ODM.
The likes of Orengo and Oburu not to forget Raila for president should now pack and go home. In the new costitution, Kenyans should elect corrupt free educated and people of integrity and in particular those who have not been in parliament. What the current MPigs have eaten is more than enough.
