Mobby Mobisa migrated to the United States from Kenya two years ago, and despite facing the same challenges that many other new immigrants face while trying to settle in to the new country, has managed to release a new Swahili video titled Nakupenda. Nakupenda is one of the tracks in the album titled Sauti za Nyumbani released by Mobisa on August 15 of this year, and is currently on sale in African stores around Minneapolis.
The singer/songwriter was born in Kisii, Kenya but grew up in Mombasa. He is currently based in Minneapolis, Minnesota, and tells Mwakilishi.com that he credits the launching of his career in the US to a friend who introduced him to a Jamaican producer named Skynkey. Through Skynkey, he recorded a song named African Children. The song earned him his first show in the US - through Kilimanjaro Entertainment, a widely known USA promoter of African music and entertainment. He has since recorded other songs; among them Times are Hard, Likable, Mpenzi and Shamba la Wenyewe.
Mobisa’s career in music began in 2005 in Mombasa under Ufuoni Records and Big Sounds Records. While in Mombasa he managed to record several songs including Jipe Shugli, Niko Busy, Malkia, and Ameniwahi. He also performed live at various events and venues in Mombasa while attending Mombasa Polytechnic University College.
“My dream is to take music to the next level and I am working on a new project that will educate the society in my next album,” Mobisa tells Mwakilishi.com.
