Uhuru Kenyatta to Skip Second Debate over Unfairness, Says Jubilee Alliance
Jubilee Alliance has written a letter to the Presidential Debate 2013 Secretariat protesting what they term as unfairness in how the first debate last week was organized and moderated, and stated that as a result of this TNA presidential candidate Uhuru Kenyatta will not be participating in the second Presidential Debate scheduled for Monday, February 25th.
Jubilee, in the letter says that the moderators chose to put o a lot of focus in the debate on the ICC issue and none on the scandals that have faced other candidates who participated in the debate. “We would have expected that after the introduction of the so-called ‘elephant-in-the-room’ regarding Uhuru Kenyatta and the ICC; due focus would also have been given to equally sizable jumbos (hard questions) touching on other candidates, including the Triton, Maize and Kazi Kwa Vijana scandals involving Prime Minister Raila Odinga,” the letter reads in part.
The letter also touches on the multi-billion shilling Goldenberg scandal in which Musalia Mudavadi and Paul Muite have been prominently mentioned but was not brought up by the moderators in the debate, alleged financial improprieties of Peter Kenneth while at the helm of both KFF and Kenya-Re, and the misappropriation of free education funds at the Education ministry while James ole Kiyiapi served as the Permanent Secretary.
Jubilee specifically protests that Linus Kaikai, one of the two moderators, overstepped his mandate and set the stage for the other candidates to gang up against Uhuru on the ICC issue in the guise of addressing the vital subject of good governance, an issue that took at least 30 minutes of the debate, yet he [Kaikai] did not bring up any of the scandals any of the other candidates have been mentioned in. TNA adds that Kaikai is a known supporter of ODM (Raila Odinga’s party) and that it emerged clearly from the way he moderated the debate that he had “an axe to grind against Uhuru Kenyatta.” The party also mentions that the other moderator in the debate, Julie Gichuru is an employee of Royal Media Services which owned by S.K Macharia, an outspoken supporter of Raila Odinga.
Jubille say that the integrity issue solely focused on the ICC cases but the Prime Minister was not probed on his suitability for office following his admission that he participated in the 1982 coup attempt, an act TNA terms “an illegal and unconstitutional enterprise aimed at overturning the constitutional order in Kenya.”
While stating that the party torch-bearer will not participate in the upcoming debate, Jubilee Alliance states that it is ready to meet with members of the Presidential Debate 2013 Secretariat to discuss the concerns.
Good move Uhuru! You will win the elections in the first round by God's favor!!!!!!
He went for the debate inspite of your advice. This is what I call good move. Though evassive as far as tracts of land bequeathed to him by his late father are concerned. I mean what is total hecterage owned by that family! If Tana river where he conceeded he ONLY owns 30,000 acreas WILLING SELLER, WILLING BUYER is anything to go by. In my mind, that is a lot of land when there are landless people in our nation. What of in Rift Valley, Kiambu and other places unknown to us!!!
Keep up Uhuru. You have the potential to try again for 2017 elections. But all in all, 50 years rule between 2 tribes in a country that boasts of 42 tribes is unfair to say the least.
bad move. Despite the ICC issue, you came out ontop, so why spoil it for yourself ? Jubilee should have just protested but Uhuru should not refuse to participate in the debate.
"Leaders are made, they are not born. They are made by hard effort, which is the price which all of us must pay to achieve any goal that is worthwhile." by Vince Lombardi.
Uhuru's concerns are legit, but, he should should quit the self-pity and man-up! Take advantage of the platform to clean his image as he portray through his skills and manifesto that he will be a phenomenal president. Debates are not friendly matches, they are grilling chambers!
I totally agree with this decision. In the upcoming debate the moderators will be Aduak or Udwak Amimo and some KTN guy who is biased against UK as hell.
Very bad move! You lose my vote, and many more, if you choose a no-show. That first debate show-cased how you've matured and how focused you can be..... You are letting your supporters down....
While I understand why Uhuru feels that he should not take part in the second presidential debate, it is important to advice him that while he is on stage he can clarify many issues.By the way he did very well in the debate. Just foreword though, he did not move my position and option about him and what he stands for.
Kaikai the moderator was doing his job regardless of who he supports. ICC issue need s to be addressed otherwise as Raila said if found quilty Uhuru feels can't effort running a government by skype . Simply it means Kenyans will have to give back to the polls with shame that they did not vet on the guy they put in the highest office.
If Kaikai is the moderator in the second debate, I would not only follow the maize and Nazi wa vijana as suggested by Uhuru group, but would carpet Mr. Raila on hiis involvement in the 1982 to overthrow from power the then president. Advice for Uhuru is that avoiding is not winning.
That is really sad that he won't participate, I want a President who takes the bulls by the horns when the going gets tough and not run away. If you can walk away from something as small as a debate what happens when you have to fight for kenya on bigger issues.
I am disappointed that you have shown fear rather than courage and proud to think that you think you have the presidency vote already and don't need to convince Kenyans. I thought you were doing this for the Kenyan people and not yourself.
I support your move some media houses have decided to gang up against u, the move by the royal media service to bar Kabando wa Kabando from the citizen studio was a clear indication of the unfairness
I agree with agie bad move. Despite the ICC issue, you came out ontop, so why spoil it for yourself ? Jubilee should have just protested but Uhuru should not refuse to participate in the debate.
When as a leader you refuse to participate, it sends out the wrong signals about your leadership agenda and your tolerance levels. Let the issues Jubilee has highlighted be addressed in the next debate.
We were really impressed during the debate, Please dont let us down by being a no-show.
Uhuru, you disappoint me. I always believed you were way more articulate, perhaps even smatter than your sturttering competition. Why chicken and give your competition the benefit of doubt?
Bad move UK. You should attend despite all that which we also noticed and guess what you still won our hearts by the way you answered the icc question.you see they give you more time coverage and guys have a chance to listen to you and make up their minds. Please attend and show us you can do it. Go for it UK.
The issues that has been raised by Jubilee candidate are weighty issues and should be resolved before the next debate if the Jubilee candidate has to participate. There is no point of participating in a debate where the moderators are already biased in favour of certain candidates.
I totally agree with Uhuru's concerns. We all know that he is facing ICC issues and if the debate was to be fair then the Moderators should have also pinned down the other presidential candidates on negative issues that have faced them. Lets not assume that they are holier than thou.
Peter Keneth, kenya re house that he bought, Raos mollases, Triton, maize etc, kiyiapi education, Mudavadi and Muite Goldenberg etc, Martha Family values, South Ngiriama land. Its also rumored Martha she may be owning more than what she declared as she is associated with a huge residential flat and land in Juja worth over Sh100 Million.
Lets all be fair to these politicians and hit them hard, not just one of them. Uhuru is a great debate, I watched him at KISS TV and was amazed at how well he articulate in issues. Notwithstanding ICC issues combined with Ruto they have convinced me they are great leaders.
bad move...very bad move....Guys...the great martin Luther once said..."The true measure of a man is not how he behaves in moments of comfort and convenience but how he stands at times of controversy and challenges" Every great leader gets a lot of crap and opposition thrown his way...ask Jesus! What sets them apart is how they handle the challenge...not how they run away from it....
Very smart move! Good players quit when they are at their best. Bravo Uhuru! You are the Best
Can you imagine if Obama withdrew citing instances of unfairness? Are Kenyans allowed to quit when these same politicians treat us with disdain and unfairness? So what will Uhuru do if he finds the presidency too hard and the media too harsh and the ICC unyielding- will he quit? Just quit the race already, your 'personal challenge' is an unfair burden on the Kenyans.
someone help me understand; is it the moderators who were asking the questions or the kenyans? For information, i thought these topics were formulated from the questions kenyans asked the most and were put into topics!!! I think Uhuru should be happy because it is from the grilling that those who wanted to vote for some1 else because of the ICC issue would change their minds and vote for him based on how well he explained the issue...as for 'boycotting' the debate, it will be the worst blunder of his presidential bid as he would have gotten the 'sympathy votes' for those who felt aliingiliwa saaana! I too want a STRONG president who even with the ICC tag and burden, he can stand and convince the west not to input sanctions on us (wanjiru sons and daughters)...i am especially looking at my job in case the so called west decide not to work with us! remember Karua said 'them politicians dont put food on my table' so i need convincing...
I think Uhuru should take part in that debate. He should show them he is not coward by anything. However if he doesn't attend it only shows he has something to hide. Besides I think Kenyan People Know better!
THIS IS A BIG CALL TO THE ORGANIZERS OF THE DEBATE.IF MEDIA HOUSES HAVE TAKEN SIDES WITH POLITICAL PARTIES,WHAT ARE THEY MODERATING? CAN THEY STOP MOCKING KENYANS AND WASTING OUR PRECIOUS TIME.
IS THERE ANYTHING IN KENYA THAT IS NOT TINTED WITH CORRUPTION AND PARTISAN INTERESTS. UHURU SHOULD NOT WITHDRAW FROM THE DEBATE,BUT RATHER IF THE ORGANIZERS CANNOT LIVE UP TO THE CHALLENGE OF PROVIDING US WITH A FAIR DEBATE NOT LED BY MEMBERS OF MEDIA HOUSES IN SUPPORT OF SPECIFIC CAN THEY STOP WASTING KENYANS TIME. THE MEDIA WAS OUR WATCHDOG TO PUT THE CANDIDATES TO A TEST, IF THE MEDIA HAS PARTISAN INTERESTS TAKING SIDES IS WHAT WILL PLUNGE THIS COUNTRY INTO CHAOS AGAIN.
FOR LINUS KAIKAI,IF YOU HAD INTEREST IN VIEYING FOR A SEAT ON AN ODM CANDIDATURE WHAT THE HELL WERE YOU DOING AS A MODERATOR? FOR JULIE GICHURU,IF YOUR BOSS IS UP CAMPAIGNING FOR CORD,WHAT WERE U MODERATING? FOR UHURU KENYATTA,STAND UP AND FACE THE ICC ISSUE. FOR THE OTHER CANDIDATES THE DEBATE WAS YPUR CHANCE TO SHINE INSTEAD OF LAMENTING ON THE ICC ISSUE.WE ARE LEARNED WE KNOW THE ISSUE.PLEASE DONT FORCE IT DOWN OUR THROATS.IT CANNOT CHANGE VOTES. FOR THE ORGANIZERS OF THE DEBATE.KINDLY TAKE NOTE. THAT MOST KENYANS ARE NOT AMUSED AT ALL.
CAN WE OBSERVE IMPARTIAL MODERATORS NOT TAKEN FROM MEDIA HOUSES. CAN YOU LIVE UP TO THE CHALLENGES RAISED? OR WILL YOU FORCEFULLY MAKE US WATCH A SECOND DEBATE WHILE ALL THE MAJOR WEAKNESSES EACH PRESIDENTIAL CANDIDATE HAS ARE SWEPT UNDER THE CARPET.BECAUSE IF YOU DO.YOU ARE TAKING KENYA BACK.KINDLY HOST A FAIR DEBATE OR WATCH IT YOURSELVES. I WANT TO SEE UHURU GRILLED, RAILA TOO , KIYIAPI, KENNETH, KARUA AND THE REST. GOLDENBERG, EDUCATION SCANDAL, A COUP. LET KENYANS SEE WHAT THEY ARE VOTING INTO OFFICE.
Why are you shouting? Cannot recall anywhere, where it states that Linus vied for a seat? Link?
You guys have said it yourselfs, UK was grilled to the bone about the ICC issue while all else was left to rot in closets. Why then would he expose himself to an obviously skewed debate again? It makes sense for him to withdraw the ICC issue from the table and let other candidates bear the scrutiny. Plus the campaign team and UK supporters have had a lengthy period to discuss both the first and upcoming debates and decide not to do this. It is actually very clever. 'they say the debate was all about their candidate, so they withdraw him and see if any of the vibrancy will be lost' either way UK wins. Just imagine what it will prove if the next debate goes flat just because UK isn't there
Uhuru this is a men's game not a boys' club. Besides the fact that you do not care about sanctions on Kenya makes me sad. The questions we had included how you were going to implement the new constitution with a running mate who campaigned against it, Artur brothers, mihadarati and how you would handle those issues.
So sad to hear that as ur supporter! U dont av to boycott it or else u wil stand to lose alot!
Go for the debate. It is the best opportunity for Kenyans to know about your leadership proficiency.
I am convinced you are a good leader!
Dear Uhuru, you are a good leader. Focus on diligent campaigns and you will win.
These debate organizers are campaigners for Raila. That is why they did not take him to account on his criminal acts. Attempting to overthrow a legitimate government is the greatest sin and many others.
God will ashame the devils of the media that is vigorously campaigning for the wrong people to office.
You are right. Some media houses have been bought to campaign against you but keep collected. You will win and they will be ashamed.
Please go and answer the questions as they come and if you sense that they are biased, please raise the objection there and there to ashame the devil. We are watching and let me assure you that you are going to win.
I am sure you will come out victorious.
I do think Uhuru has a point and his protest is justified but he should still take part. About why the debate focussed on ICC is for the moderator to answer. Maybe this worked to Uhuru's advantage. but Jullie Gichuru's presence is controversial. Every one of us has a preferred candidate but it is a known fact Julie's boss is openly an ODM.
Questions were from the populace and not Linus Kaikai. Freedom of choice is enshrined in the constitution. I am happy to note what kind of leadership we would expect from an ICC suspect. Please note that the crimes you are allegedly accused of are touching on violations against humanity that has brought suffering to citizens to date. Clear your name first then you can come and rule in 2017 if cleared. After all you are claiming to be jubilee, a fallacy because you are in the same age bracket as others over 50 and therefore you qualify for the analogues. Man-up and be counted as a true leader by going to the debate and bringing the issues up there if you feel aggrieved by the kenyan citizenry's questions!
The second debate will include the land issue, another chance for Uhuru to get fried. He is better of not attending.
Uhuru should not cow dow
