Former Electoral Commission of Kenya Chairman Samuel Kivuitu is Dead

Former Chairman of the defunct Electoral Commission of Kenya, Samuel Kivuitu is dead. He succumbed to throat cancer at the MP Shah Hospital in Nairobi.

The 74 year-old career lawyer and civil servant was at the helm of the Electoral Commission of Kenya (ECK) during the 2007 disputed presidential elections between Mai Kibaki and Raila Odinga.

He also previously served as a Member of Parliament (MP) for Parklands from 1969 to 1974 and from 1983 to 1988.
