Kenyan film Nairobi Half Life is set to be screened in 100 movie theaters in the United States on Thursday, March 21st only.. The movie’s audience at each of the 100 theaters will vote on whether the movie should return at the theater for a week’s theatrical release, reports IndieWire. The film was entered for Oscar nomination in the Best Foreign Language category this year but lost in the preliminary rounds.

The screening is courtesy of The Feature Film Project initiative. A list of participating theaters will be released soon.

Nairobi Half Life, directed by David "Tosh" Gitonga follows the life of Mwas (played by Joseph Wairimu), a young actor who leaves his rural home and in the hopes of achieving his big dreams in a big city, settles in Nairobi and endures several challenges associated with trying to settle in a big city with no money and no family support. He finds himself in a life of crime.

The film has received major international acclaim and was recently added as one of the in-flight entertainment movies by several international airlines including Kenya Airways, South African Airways and Emirates Airlines. It has been screened at several international movie festivals including at the Palm Springs International Film Festival and Durban International Film Festival.
