Director of Public Prosecutions Keriako Tobiko has ordered a more thorough investigation into Gatundu South MP Moses Kuria’s alleged hate speech.
Kuria is accused of telling youth in his constituency on July 7 to slash with pangas those opposed to National Youth Service projects.
“It is rather surprising that for an event that was very well-attended, the investigating officer only got two witnesses to record statements on the suspect’s speech,†Tobiko said in a letter yesterday.
He wrote to CID boss Ndegwa Muhoro through assistant DPP Leonard Maingi.
Tobiko ordered the investigating officer to get additional witnesses and record their statements.
He objected to CID’s excuse that Kiambu Youth executive Machel Waikenda declined to record a statement “due to his own reasonsâ€.
The DPP also disputed claims the investigating officer did not receive Kuria’s raw footage from KTN.
Meanwhile, the Law Society of Kenya has appealed to the Independent Policing Oversight Authority to step in and investigate the matter.
In a letter, LSK said: “If a cover-up is allowed, our country shall be in danger from the actions of individuals who incite violence and spew hate speech.â€
