Tumeongea na kujadili mengi ya siasa nyumbani Kenya. Hebu sasa tugeuze nyuso zetu na kujadili hali hii ya kiafya ainayotuadhiri siku baada ya nyingine: KITAMBI. Kwa kifupi tu, kitambi ni tumbo kubwa ambayo inachomoka mbele na wakati mwingi kuning'inia kwa njia isiyo ya kawaida. Kitambi ni mafuta au takataka ambayo mwili wa binadamu hauihitaji katika pilka pilka za kukuza mwili. Kitambi, au kwa njina nyingine, kilibetumbo, huwaadhiri sana sana wanaume. Kilibetumbo, na muniwie radhi kwa kusema hili, ni ugonjwa kama magonjwa mengineo. Kitambi ni msongamano,mafuta ya ziada masalia na mlimbikizo wa mafuta kwenye utumbo baada ya mwili kuyachanua, kuyachunga chunga na kuyachukuwa mafuta inayohiji mwilini kukupa kulinda mwili kwa njia nyingi. Kilibetumbo ni ugonjwa ambao muhusika yuahitajika kuchukuwa hatua kupunguza, kuitbu au kuuangamiza.
Mkenya yeyote aliye na kitambi husemekana kuwa yeye anaishi vizuri, anakula vizuri. Kitambi nyumbani ni ishara ya ufanisi au mafanikio kwa mhusika katika nyanda nyingi za kijamii. Wanaume walikuwa wakiwaonya wake zao kutowapikia vyakula visivyo na nyama. Ni kwa sababu vitambi huusishwa na huonekana kwa viongozi wetu, wanabiashara maarufu na hasa wabunge ambao kwa sababu ya kuwa nje ya manyumbani mwao, hujiona wanakula nyama na kutelemsha chupa kadhaa za mvinyo, ambavyo ndivyo vyakula hatari vinavyosababisha likimbikizo kubwa ya mafuta ya ziada katika tumbo zao.
Orodha ya vyakula vinavyosababisha unenepaji wa kitambi ni vingi vikiwemo nyama( iwe ni ya kuchemsha, kukaanga au kuchoma. Nyinginezo ni mafuta tuyatupiapo kupika, hasa yale yatengenezwapo na bidhaa za wanyama, km siagi, na jabini. Bila kuahau pia vyakula vya viazi ya mkaango(chips), pizza, vyenye wanga mwingi kama ugali wa mahindi, mihogo, wali, mikate mieupe na pia viazi vya mviringo:Ndizi pia ni kati ya kiini cha matukio haya. Orodha hii ni ndefu.
Wakenya wanajulikana ulimwenguni kwa ulaji mkubwa wao wa nyama, au "Nyama choma." Wazungu uwaonao kule Soko Maarafu la Burma, jijini Nairobi, hawafiki pale kula nyama chomo, ila wanafika kule kutazama na kufanya utafiti kuhusu maajabu ya malimwengu kwa Wakenya wanavyokula nyama kiasi ilhali tumbo haikuundwa kusaga vinovu vya nyama kiasi hicho.
Maisha hapa Marekani, ikiwemo nchi nyinginezo za magharibi, muda wa kujibwaga jikoni na kupika chakula cha kusaidia mwili hakuna. Kifwatacho ni sisi kukimbilia vyakula vilivyotayarishwa kwa pupa, chakula ambacho hatukifahamu na hatuelewi vilivyo jinsi kilivyotayarishwa na hasa madhara yake. Yote haya ni maendeleo ya kiubepari. Ni ukweli kwamba ujilimbikizaji wa mafuta tumboni ni kiini chanzo kimija ambacho kinasababisha magonjwa mengi kama vile ya kupanda na kushuka kwa msunguko wa damu mwilini, kisukari, saratani, roho na kadharika. Kumechipuka makampuni mengi ambayo yanajigamba kwamba yanaweza kupunguza na kutokomeza vitambi kwa mwanaume yeyote yule. Mara wanakutumia vyakula kwa njia ya posta, wengine wanatengeneza mikanda ya kufunga na kukaza kilibetumbo eti kukipunguza, wengine wameanzisha nyumba za kufanyia mazoezi, na zingine zimeanzisha aina madawa yenye madhara chungu nzima. Haya yote ni sawa, lakini inafaa? Ukweli ni kwamba waweza kupunguza kitambi kwa kula vyakula ambavyo vyaweza kukipunza bila ya wewe kutafuta usaudizi kutoka kwa yoyote au popote. Kwanza, achana au punguza kiasi ulacho cha vyakula vyenye wanga. Epukana na mafuta yasiyoyeyuka kwa urahisi mwilini. Hakikisha kwamba zaidi ya asilimia 85 ya sahani yako ni mboga za aina nyingi na matunda, kisha ongeza maharage na ndengu katika sehemu iliosalia. Jiepushe na unywaji wa juisi na soda: punguza kabisa utumiaji wa sukari au vitu vitamu tamu, na pia usisahau kusahau chumvi kabisa. Kula aina mbali mbali ya samaki hasa salmon. Na baada ya hayo yote, tembea tembea au fanya mazoezi ya agalao dakika thelathini kwa siku tatu kwa wiki. Baada ya tatu hivi, hutaamini matokeo yatakayofuata. Kitambi kikishafifia, utakuwa mtu wakusemwa semwa. Eti kuwa wewe kashikwa na "mdudu". Eti "Je, umuona Mkenya yule siku za karibuni, mgonjwa yule?" La, sivyo. Mkenya mwenzetu anakula na kunywa kwa mpangilio. Mkenya wa rika langu amepofuka, ameelimika. Mkenya huyu kabadirika si ajabu. Mkenya huyu analala usingizi wa pono kama ule wa mtoto mchanga. Ugonjwa wa sukari, saratani, roho.....ng'o! Ugonjwa wa kitambi kaumaliza na kuutibu mwenyewe, bila daktari, bila Weight Watchers, Nutrisytem. Nimesemwa, nimesengenywa. Karibu kwa kilabu changu.
