Taveta MP Naomi Shaban Returns to Jubilee

Taveta MP Naomi Shaban has rescinded her decision to leave the Jubilee Party, two days after she announced she was had left the party.

Dr Shaban, who is also National Assembly deputy majority leader, said her supporters had urged her to remain in Jubilee and will participate in the party nominations on Friday to defend her seat.

She said her earlier decision to leave Jubilee was not a sign of having fallen out with President Uhuru Kenyatta or Deputy President William Ruth, saying she would have joined a Jubilee affiliate party and would still have supported them for re-election. "In any way, I was going to join a party affiliated to Jubilee because my President is Uhuru Kenyatta and his Deputy William Ruto," Naomi Shaban told Daily Nation.

Her decision to leave, she said, had been triggered by some action from a top Jubilee official but that the issue has since been rectified. "A non-Taveta candidate named Naomi like myself was planted to oppose me in Taveta. Many things went wrong in the party, but they didn't want to rectify them," said Shaban.
