US Gov't Suspends Assistance to Kenya's Ministry of Health until "Specific Conditions Are Met"

The US government has suspended any support the US offers to the Kenyan Ministry of Health with immediate effect until certain “specific conditions are met.”

The move was announced in a letter dated May 8th by USAID and signed by its Kenya and East Africa contracting officer, Brian Woody. The letter, received by Daily Nation, says activities such as salaries, operations, domestic and international travel, meetings, and workshop have been suspended.

“Any activities conducted with the MoH during the period of suspension will not be reimbursed by the United States government,” says the letter.

No reason was given for the suspension nor the conditions that the ministry will need to meet to the lift of the suspension.

The US embassy in Nairobi is set to issue a more detailed statement on the suspension on Tuesday.
