Reprieve for Joho as Probe on Fake Certificate Ends

John Wanjohi May 09, 2017

Mombasa Governor Ali Hassan Joho has been handed a political lifeline after the anti-graft agency, Ethics and Anti-corruption Commission (EACC) revealed that it has closed the file of a case in which the body was probing Joho’s KCSE exam certificate case.

An EACC detective who spoke to the Star on conditions of anonymity revealed that the commission move to close the file was arrived at after the responses they got from Joho’s former schools satisfied them.

“The response the body [EACC] got from the Tom Mboya Primary School head teacher was satisfactory and added up. Same to Serani Secondary School,” the detective said.

The anti-graft body was investigating Joho over claims that he had forged a 1993 KCSE exam certificate so that he could secure an admission at the University of Nairobi.

In a ruling last Wednesday, Justice Chacha Mwita rejected a renewed attempt to have Joho barred from being cleared by IEBC to contest in August 8 elections.
