Atheists in Kenya Endorse Raila Odinga's Presidential Bid
Atheists in Kenya (AIK) have endorsed National Super Alliance (NASA) presidential candidate Raila Odinga ahead of the August 8th general elections.
The group had applied to be formally registered under the Registrar of Societies in Kenya, but their application was rejected by the Jubilee administration through Attorney General Githu Muigai. The group believes that it will finally be legally recognized under the law in the country when the former prime minister ascends to power in August.
Atheists in Kenya president Harrison Mumia placed a post with the hash tag #Atheists4Raila on his Facebook wall, suggesting the group is endorsing Raila Odinga’s presidential bid.
The post sparked mixed reactions among Kenyans on social media, with some welcoming their support, whole others dismissed the groups that does not believe in God.
“We welcome their votes, but not their ideologies,” said George Omondi.
Steve Andele agreed: “Those are Kenyans, Joshua needs their votes, he will be president for all including URBAN guys.”
“4God sake we don't want their votes, wavotie chupilee,” wrote Eliud Dola.
Waititu Wainaina wondered: “But they know very well he is 'Joshua' How on Earth atheists can support a believer?”
The NASA team is yet to issue any comments on the endorsement.
