NASA Co-Principal Moses Wetangula to Defend His Bungoma Senate Seat

After initially denying speculation that he intends to run for re-election, Moses Wetangula on Friday confirmed that he will indeed be defending his Bungoma senatorial seat on a Ford-Kenya ticket.

Wetangula is one of National Super Alliance (NASA) co-principals and has been offered a new seat that will be created if NASA wins the presidential election – Deputy Premier Cabinet Secretary.

The move seems aimed to ensure Wetangula remains in power whether or not NASA wins the presidential election with Raila Odinga as the flag bearer. He assured his supporters on Friday that the move is not meant as a sign of cowardice but rather as a strategic move in his ambition to run for the presidency in 2022.

 “When you see a ram moving away, don’t think that it’s a coward, its preparing itself to hit its rival very hard… by defending my seat, I’m not a coward, even my friend, the Bomet governor, will defend his,” said Wetangula on Friday.

Ford-Kenya did not field any Senatorial aspirants in the Bungoma party primary elections held last month, and instead reserved he seat for Wetnagula, who is the party leader.

Wetangula will face Juma Mukhwana of Jubilee Party and journalists David Makali and Boniface Nyongesa in the August 8th general elections.
