Blow to Peter Kenneth as President Uhuru Endorses Mike Sonko for Nairobi Governor

Nairobi Governor hopeful Peter Kenneth has been dealt a major blow after President Uhuru Kenyatta appeared to endorse Nairobi Senator Mike Sonko for Nairobi gubernatorial seat.

The president had earlier welcomed the endorsement of his reelection by independent candidates who convened at Kasarani stadium a week under the Kenya Independent Association umbrella and endorsed President Uhuru Kenyatta re-election bid.

Peter Kenneth ditched the Jubilee party after he was dissatisfied by the declaration of Mike Sonko as the winner of Jubilee ticket for Nairobi governor to face ODM’s incumbent governor Evans Kidero.

Analysts had expressed fears that President Uhuru Kenyatta was not going to publicly endorse Mike Sonko for the governor seat, due to his leadership style.

But while on a tour to Nairobi Eastlands area on Monday morning, the president asked residents to vote for Mike Sonko as the next Kenya’s capital boss.

“Nyiniyi wenyewe mliamua kwamba Sonko akuwe governor, Sakaja akuwe Senator na timu yote ya Nairobi. Wangapi wanatapigia Sonko kura awe governor?,” the President posed.

(You are the ones who decided that Sonko will be the governor, while Sakaja be your senator and the entire Nairobi team. How many of you will be voting for Mike Sonko as the Governor?).

The president was on a tour to Nairobi area, before presenting his papers to the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) at the Kenya International Conference Center later in the aftrenoon.

He was accompanied by his Deputy William Ruto, Nairobi Senator Mike Sonko, Johnstone Sakaja and several other Jubilee leaders.
