Former US-Based Author Cleared to Run for Kenyan Presidency
The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has cleared eight candidates to contest for Presidency in the August 8 general elections, among them a former United States based-author Japhet Kaluyu.
Kaluyu and his running mate Eliud Kariara were cleared were given the nod by the poll body as an independent candidate after fulfilling all the requirements to contest for the country’s top political seat.
The 51 year-old Kaluyu returned to Kenya after living in Washington and Haledon NJ, Derwood for years. He describes himself as a speaker, educator, consultant and author with experience in Wall Street, health research, academia and consultancy.
He describes himself on his website as having been born “in a small village in Africa”.
Kaluyu will be facing President Uhuru Kenyatta of Jubilee Party, Raila Odinga of Orange Democratic Movement, Joe Nyaga (independent), Prof Michael Wainaina (independent), Abduba Dida of Tunza coalition, Ekuru Aukot of Third Way Alliance and Cyrus Jirongo of UDF.
