Bahati MP Kimani Ngunjiri in 'Trouble' after Reportedly Attacking Disabled Rival During Live Interview

Police are investigating Bahati Member of Parliament Onesmus Kimani Ngunjiri after reports that he physically attacked and injured his rival, who is disabled, at a local radio station in Nakuru.

Ngunjiri and John Mbugua, an independent candidate challenging Ngunjiri for the Bahati seat, were attending a debate on a live talk show at Nakuru-based vernacular radio station Ithaga FM on Sunday night. The two had been invited by the radio station to speak and sell their manifestos but clashed as the discussion got underway.

Mbugua claimed that the MP attacked him inside the studio by fighting him to the ground and kicking him. “He threw me to the ground and started kicking me while shouting vulgar words. In the midst of the confrontation, his bodyguard who was waiting outside came in and joined him in beating me,” Mbugua claimed.

When he was reached for a comment, Ngunjiri, who has had a series of controversies, refuted the claims, adding that his opponent had cooked up the story to seek sympathy votes.

Nakuru police boss Joshua Omukata said that police have launched investigations after Mbugua reported the incident it at the Central police station in Nakuru. “Mbugua reported to the police that he was kicked twice by Ngunjiri after an argument during a live radio show,” the officer said.
