Several Injured While Fighting for Money Thrown from a Chopper by a Politician
Several people were on Friday hospitalized after sustaining injuries during a nasty fight as they scrambled for money thrown from a flying helicopter.
Residents of Kulundu area in Kitui County were forced to engage in the fight as they battled for cash dished from a moving helicopter by a group of politicians who toured the area to campaign.
The group of over 10 politicians had visited the area to drum up support for President Uhuru Kenyatta’s re-election bid.
Trouble began after a group of youth reportedly stormed the venue where the politicians were scheduled to address a rally, forcing them to retreat to their chopper that was on standby.
In bid to scatter the group of rowdy youths, one politician threw a bundle of cash at them, leaving them fighting for the notes.
What followed than was the ‘survival for the fittest’ as they engaged in blows, each fighting to have the lion share of the money. Several people were left injured in the commotion and were rushed to nearby dispensary for treatment.
The identity of the politicians was not established as they were not allowed to settle, before chaos ensued. But, sources reveal that Ukambani leaders who ditched Wiper party for Jubilee led by Mwingi central MP Joe Mutambu had organized to tour the area to drum up support for president Uhuru, in the region widely considered an opposition backyard.
This comes just days after another group of Jubilee politicians led by Nairobi Senate aspirant Johnstone Sakaja and Gatundu South Member of Parliament Moses Kuria were also forced to cut short their campaign trail in the same region, after the masses turned hostile.
The aggrieved crowd shouted down the leaders chanting opposition coalition’s National Super Alliance (NASA) slogans, while threatening to attack them.
