Kirinyaga Residents Chase Away Martha Karua after She Attacked Waiguru

John Wanjohi Jun 19, 2017

Kirinyaga County gubernatorial candidate Martha Karua’s rally was forced to end prematurely in her Gichugu backyard after rowdy crowd jeered and threatened to attack her convoy.

Karua, accompanied by her running mate Joseph Gitari was forced to cut short her speech and call off the rally following the incident from people believed to be supporters of her rival, former Devolution Cabinet Secretary Anne Waiguru.

Trouble began when Karua attacked Anne Waiguru, saying that she was corrupt and should not be elected in the upcoming elections, something that did not go well with the crowd.

A huge crowd had converged to listen to the Narc-Kenya leader, but things turned chaotic after they began chanting anti-Karua slogans saying that she had nothing to show, even after being in government for long.

"You resigned as justice minister after you had promised us you would lobby for the construction of Kianyaga - Kithure road but that did not happen," one of the residents stated.

Efforts by Gitari to calm the crowd hit a hard rock as the crowd started throwing objects at them.

Karua will be facing Waiguru in the August 8 polls. Waiguru is contesting on President Uhuru Kenyatta’s Jubilee party, while Karua will be using her party, Nark-Kenya, which has already endorsed President Uhuru Kenyatta for the top seat.

The supremacy battle between the two is expected to feature when President Uhuru Kenyatta visits Kirinyaga County to drum support for his reelection this week.
