Raila Names 42 People in Fresh Rigging Claims
National Super Alliance (NASA) presidential candidate Raila Odinga has issued fresh vote rigging claims, naming 42 individuals drawn from Kenya police and military deployed by Jubilee to interfere with the forthcoming General Election.
Speaking in a press briefing at his Capitol Hill office in Nairobi on Thursday, the former Prime Minster said that the 42, picked from the Army, National Intelligence Service, General Service Unit and the Dog Unit have been hired to work as returning officers, clerks and party agents during the August 8 election.
“The decision was made at a meeting held on 23rd June where the officers work IDs were withdrawn and given the normal IDs,” he said.
The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leader further said that the 42 officers were contacted by Government operatives on a secret plan.
“I’m not just making wild allegations,” he said. “Some of the officers have talked to us…we have evidence and will provide it.” he said while presenting the 42 names to the Media.
Raila said that Jubilee had resorted to planning on how to rig, after a poll conducted by the National Intelligence Service (NIS) indicated that NASA was poised to win the poll by all means. He urged the military to keep off the Elections and concentrate in their work.
"(They) must not be used to subvert the will of the people,” he said.
On Monday, Raila linked acting Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i to Election rigging claims, saying that the CS was working with the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) manipulate next month’s elections results in favor of President Uhuru Kenyatta.
