Ukambani Leaders Condemn Circulation of 'Raila 10 Years' Leaflets
National Super Alliance (NASA) leaders drawn from the expansive Ukambani region have condemned leaflets alluding that Raila Odinga will rule for 10 years if he wins in next week’s elections circulated in the region on Saturday night.
Over 5,000 leaflets are said to have been circulated at bus stops, markets, residential areas and other public places in Machakos, Makueni and Kitui counties major towns.
Led by Machakos Senator Johnson Muthama, the leaders accused their rivals in President Uhuru’s Jubilee Party, terming it a plot meant to cause confusion and divide Kamba vote.
“They are clearly trying to tilt the vote and incite the Kambas that Raila is going to be in leadership for ten years. I want to assure the Kamba community, Kenyans and those supporting NASA that there is nothing like that,” Muthama told Capital FM News on telephone.
Muthama alleged that some local MPs sympathetic to the Jubilee Party were behind the circulation of the leaflets, sentiments echoed by Machakos gubernatorial candidate Wavinya Ndeti.
“Our opponents are going rounds circulating leaflets in Machakos, Kitui and Makueni saying those Raila 10 years Kalonzo 10 years we want to tell them that in Ukambani we are one and we will not be divided,” Wavinya said.
The circulation comes only a day after an aborted demonstration in Kisumu where NASA-branded t-shirts with the same message were set ablaze by irate Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) supporters.
