Raila, Anyang Nyong'o Differ on Work Boycott Calls

John Wanjohi Aug 14, 2017

Kisumu County Governor-elect Professor Anyang' Nyong'o has ignored Natonal Super Alliance (NASA) chief, Raila Odinga call on supporters to boycott work on Monday, and asked Kisumu residents to resume their normal duties after elections.

Speaking on Sunday, Nyong'o called on residents to remain calm and not destroy Kisumu, their only home. "The boat of democracy is not sinking, it is afloat and the captains of democracy are there. Let business go on as usual,” said Prof Nyong’o.

On Sunday, Opposition leader Raila Odinga while addressing supporters in Kibera asked them not to go to work on Monday saying he will make a major announcement on Tuesday. "Kesho hakuna kazi kwa sababu Jumanne tutatangaza mwelekeo ... Leo sitaki kusema mengi ... nitaongea kesho kutwa." (Tomorrow there will be no work because on Tuesday we will announce the way forward.) "I don't want to say too much today, I will speak on Tuesday," he told supporters over the weekend amid cheers.

Nyong'o in a media address however, asked the youth to remove boulders on the road and allow transport and business to resume in Kisumu. He asked everyone to work and build the lakeside city. “Let us override the storm as a sovereign people who have our destiny in our own hands, not in the hands of the king and maintain peace to build our Kisumu,” he said.
