IEBC Commissioner Roselyn Akombe Pulled Out of US-Bound Flight
IEBC Commissioner Roselyn Akombe on Tuesday night experienced challenges at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport after she was blocked from boarding a flight to the United States.
It is said that state officers pulled out Dr. Akombe from the plane at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) on grounds that she failed to produce clearance from the Head of Public Service as required of any state employee.
It took the intervention of the United States embassy in Kenya to have Dr. Akombe released by police officers and cleared to travel since she holds dual citizenship of Kenya and the U.S.
Akombe was later transferred to the government pavilion at JKIA, with reports indicating that she has since been cleared and allowed to travel to the U.S., under the instructions of Chief of Staff, Joseph Kinyua on Wednesday morning.
A statement issued by the electoral commission on its official twitter handle said that Akombe is traveling to the U.S. on an official duty and is expected to return on Sunday.
“Dr Akombe ,who is traveling to US for an official meeting, was delayed at JKIA by officials who have since apologized. She returns on Sunday,” the commission said on its official Twitter account.
Airport authorities involved in the hitch apologized to her for the inconveniences.
