Mike Sonko Launches Campaign to Make Nairobi 'Cleanest City in Africa'

Nairobi County Governor-elect Mike Mbuvi Sonko has embarked on a campaign he says will make Nairobi city the 'Cleanest City in Africa', even before officially assuming office.

Sonko is expected to be sworn in to office on Wednesday next week, but he has opted to roll the sleeves early to show Nairobians he means business. He has already deployed hundreds of youths under the Sonko Rescue Team to clear off campaign posters and other election-related materials from walls and streets of the city.

Groups of youths have also been spotted clearing up heaps of garbage from the City and its environs.

"OPERATION NG'ARISHA JIJI Today marks the beginning of getting rid of the stench that has plagued our city for a long time," Sonko posted on Twitter.

Sonko trounced incumbent governor Evans Kidero (ODM), former Gatanga MP Peter Kenneth (independent) and former Raila Odinga aide Miguna Miguna (independent) to clinch the Nairobi governor seat in the August 8th general elections on a Jubilee Party ticket.
