Civil Society Group Says Major Disrepancies in August 8th Kenya Election Results

An alliance of civil society organizations, Kura Yangu Sauti Yangu has pointed out major contradictions and massive anomalies in the electoral numbers released by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) in the just concluded general elections.

The umbrella body, which covers Kenya Human Rights Commission (KHRC), AfriCOG among others said that it noted major discrepancies in the August 8th general elections, that cast doubts on credibility of the poll.

The group in its findings said that it noted that the voter turn out for last week's election was 15,073,662 as opposed to 15,518,971 provided by the electoral commission.

The voter turn as per the IEBC portal now stands at 15,591,217, creating a gap of 517,555 votes.

The alliance said that its over 500 monitors deployed to all the 290 constituencies reported major irregularities like "the rejected votes in 288 constituencies do not match what is recorded" in form 34Bs and there is no grand totals for rejected ballots in 25 constituencies.

“The total number of registered voters certified after the KPMG audit was 19,611,423, the total number of ballots in the ballot packing list was 19,613,846. The IEBC Chairman declared the total number of registered voters as 19,637,061.” the group said.

Kura yangu Sauti yangu futher said that, in their findings, the difference in the number of certified registered voters and one announced by IEBC chairman Wafula Chebukati when he declared the presidential election result on Friday also sharply differed.

It also said that there were diffrences in the presidential results declared at the constituency level and those announced at the county tallying centres and national tallying centres.

The group said it was considering applying for Amicus status in the presidential petition that will be filed by the opposition National Super Alliance (NASA).
