American Man Arrested in Kenya in Connection to Terrorism

John Wanjohi Aug 19, 2017

Police have arrested a man holding a United States passport on suspicion of terrorism.

47-year-old Abdi Korad Aden was arrested in Meru on Thursday together with a 62-year-old Kenyan, Mohamed Ismael Adan, after being suspected of having links to terrorism.

Initial investigations by police indicate the two have been on a mission to recruit Kenyan youths into an unspecified terrorist organization by luring them with huge cash.

Korad's passport shows that he was visiting Kenya on a three-month visa and was due to expire on October 26, while Adan said he is a former Kenya Army sergeant.

"He was in possession of certificate of service of Kenya armed forces and a post blast examination Manual," a police report said.

The report added: "They are believed to have been on a mission of recruiting youth to join a terrorist group and had identified the third suspect and started to recruit him. They however allege they were looking for potatoes to buy."

A third suspect, 23-year-old Eric Gikundi from Mikinduri, Meru County is in police custody.
