Wetang'ula Declares 2022 Presidential Bid

Ford Kenya party leader Moses Wetang'ula has declared that he will contest for the Presidency in the 2022 general election and succeed NASA leader, Raila Odinga.

Speaking during a church service at Christ the King Catholic Church on Sunday, the Bungoma senator said that, with the political retirement of Odinga, he was ready to take up the mantle.

Wetangula said he shelved his presidential ambition for Odinga's campaign, adding that he is the most suitable person to take over from Raila.

"I let my ambition go in order to support Raila in the concluded elections and with his proclamation of not going for the top seat, I will go for it in 2022," he said.

Wetang'ula unveiled his presidential bid in 2016 at Muliro Gardens in Kakamega but was to retract his pursuit and support Odinga under the National Super Alliance (NASA) coalition power sharing deal.

Wetang'ula said he has amassed enough experience over the years in elective politics, which gives him the edge to go for the country's top seat come 2022.

He said he will chip in to offer his legal knowledge to the NASA presidential petition seeking to overturn President Uhuru Kenyatta's reelection.

The senator said that Nasa has substantial evidence to prove that President Kenyatta had not won the election.

"They never won the just concluded elections. They rigged this election and the evidence we have presented is enough and we want justice to be done," he said.

He further said that NASA would seek alternative methods to resolve the dispute, should the Supreme Court rule against their favor.
