Joho Plans to Build Satellite Town to Decongest Mombasa

John Wanjohi Aug 22, 2017

Mombasa Governor Ali Hassan Joho is looking to build a satellite town in the outskirts of Mombasa as one of the legacy projects in his second term in office in a bid to decongest the coastal side city.

Mombasa County Secretary Francis Thoya said the construction of the mega infrastructure north of the island at Mwakirunge will helf free up congestion in the tourist hub.

He said the County government will partner with private sector to build the satellite towns, which is contained in the county's vision 2035 blue print.

“At the moment the town is choked to the level that there is no space even to expand our roads. The only solution is to set up infrastructure at Mwakirunge and invite the private sector to build facilities,” Thoya said.

The project will build 30,000 residential units which will be key in addressing Mombasa's housing deficit.

“What I can tell you is that the governor is keen on service delivery,” he said.
