Wetangula's Bodyguard Fired Following Supreme Court Drama

A bodyguard assigned to National Super Alliance co-principal Moses Wetang'ula, Simon Lonyai has been dismissed from National Police Service, following drama that ensued at the Supreme Court on Monday.

Constable Lonyai’s dismissal comes a day after he was involved in an altercation with his seniors at Supreme Court on Monday, where he had accompanied Wetang'ula to the ongoing presidential petition filed by Raila Odinga. The officers engaged in a confrontation with both Wetang'ula and Nasa leader Raila Odinga, who sought to have their armed bodyguards, including Lonyai, accompany them inside the contrary to the rules.

Wetang’ula’s bodyguard insisted to bring a pistol into the compound, contrary to the rules. There was a notice on the pillar at the gate is a sign reading, “No arms beyond this point.” Further, Wetang'ulas bodyguard did not also have the accreditation badge that had been issued before the start of the hearing of the case.

Former Prime Minister Raila Odinga was captured angrily punching his hand with his fist and yelled at the police officers. “This is a High Court, not a police station. Stop being unreasonable," Raila busted. “I am the one who has brought the case to the court. I am the one who decides who comes with me,” Odinga added. “These are our security. He is an officer like yourself. Behave yourself,” Mr Wetang’ula said as Homa Bay Woman Representative Gladys Wanga and others in the entourage complained.

“This boy is an officer like you,” said Wetang’ula.
