We Are Ready for Fresh Election, President Uhuru's Supporters Say

John Wanjohi Sep 01, 2017

As opposition National Super Alliance supporters took to the streets to celebrate the nullification of President Uhuru Kenyatta’s victory by the Supreme Court, Jubilee Party supporters remained calm, but maintained that they are more than ready to vote for President Uhuru once again.

In Kikuyu, Kiambu County, the ruling coalition supporters had mixed reactions on the ruling, a majority of them expressing dissent, but exuded confidence that President Uhuru will reign again.

“I did not see such a ruling coming. It is a hard one but we respect the court but come November, very early in the morning, we will vote for Uhuru,” said a resident, James Muthee.

Another supporter, Andrea Kamau noted: “The dice is cast. We will vote for Uhuru once again and this time; give NASA a huge gap of more than 1.8 million votes.”

Others accused the judges of not taking into account matters like economy in delivering their verdict.

“The ruling means the country will be set to political campaign mood and this will affect the economy in one way or another. The Judges did not factor in this aspect,” lamented Samson Kamau, a resident of Thika.

Addressing the country hours after the ruling, President Uhuru said he did not agree with the verdict, adding that he was ready for a fresh poll. He also urged Kenyans to remain peaceful.

"We are ready to go back again to the people with the same agenda, an agenda of unifying the country. Again Kenyans i say Peace, Peace, Peace, your neighbour remains your neighbour. The court has made this decision, we don't agree with it but we respect it,".

" I personally disagree with the ruling today, but i respect it. It is important for us as Kenyans to respect with the rule of the law," he said.

"We are ready to go back again to the people with the same agenda, an agenda of unifying the country,".
