Petition to Remove IEBC Officials from Office Filed at High Court after Nullification of President Uhuru's Victory

Hours after the Supreme Court nullified the re-election of President Uhuru, three voters have filed an urgent petition at the High Court, seeking to block the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) from conducting a repeat poll as currently constituted.

The voters, Brian Asin, Ben Wanasakaami, and Kevin Alwang’a filed the urgent petition urging the High Court to bar the IEBC officials from holding a fresh poll, having violated electoral laws in conducting August 8th elections as ruled by the Supreme Court.

The three argue that the integrity of the electoral commission officials to hold credible elections is in question and should therefore allow a new team to be appointed.

In the petition, they mention Chiloba (CEO), Wafula Chebukati (chairman), Ms Consolata Nkatha (vice chairman), and Commissioners Roselyn Akombe, Prof Abdi Guliye, Margaret Mwachanya, Paul Kurgat, and Boya Molu as poll agency's officials with questionable integrity.

The application will be heard next week.

The Supreme Court of Kenya led by Chief Justice David Maraga on Friday declared null and void the election of President Uhuru Kenyatta on grounds that the IEBC failed to conducted the election in accordance to the Constitution and the applicable principles.
