Jubilee Dismisses Raila's Conditions to Participate in Repeat Presidential Election

Jubilee Party has dismissed National Super Alliance (NASA) chief Raila Odinga's rejection of the October 17 date announced by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission for the repeat presidential election.

In a statement issued by Elgeyo Marakwet Senator Kipchumba Murkomen and other Jubilee leaders, President Uhuru's party termed the conditions issued by former Prime Minister before participating in the repeat elections as tactics of a losing candidate.

The Jubilee leaders said it is not a must for Raila to participate in the election, urging him to respect the rule of law and independent institutions.

"IEBC is an independent commission and should not be directed on how to do its work," Murkomen said.

"Let them boycott and Uhuru Kenyatta will be sworn in as the next president. It Wil be an easy job for us," Murkomen added.

The Jubilee leaders said that they are ready for the election at any time.

In a press briefing on Tuesday morning, ODM leader Raila Odinga said he will not accept the October 17th date set by IEBC, claiming that the electoral agency did not consult him and other stakeholders in deciding the date.

Raila further threatened to boycott the repeat poll if some changes in officials and system are not effected. He demanded that some six IEBC officers including CEO Ezra Chiloba vacate office.

The opposition suggested that the repeat election should be conducted on either 24th or 31st October.
