Martha Karua Files Petition to Challenge Anne Waiguru's Kirinyaga Governor Victory

Narc Kenya leader Martha Karua on Tuesday filed a petition seeking to challenge Anne Waiguru's win at the Kerugoya High Court.

Karua, through her lawyer Gitobu Imanyara said the August 8th election where former Devolution Cabinet Secretary was declared Kirinyaga governor was not credible, free and fair.

The former Gichugu Member of Parliament also cited the Supreme Court ruling that annulled the election of President Uhuru Kenyatta for a second term as a basis for her case.

Karua said the verdict delivered by the Supreme Court led by Chief Justice David Maraga set precedent.

She said that the ruling by the apec court will affects the governor, senator and MP elections.

"This election was held on the same day the IEBC conducted polls in the country," Imanyara told journalists after they filed the petition.

Karua said she will seek dismissal of Waiguru's victory on a preliminary point based on the findings of the Supreme Court. She will then proceed to full hearing of her petition, if the court fails to nullify the election on the preliminary basis.

The former Justice Minister said she has enough evidence of massive voter bribery at polling stations. She also claims that her agents were barred from accessing polling stations.

Karua also alleges that there was forgery of the form 37A used to transmit results from polling centers to the county tallying centre.

She also alleges that unauthorised individuals were allowed to manned voting centres.

She said that evidence in her possession indicated that over 58,000 votes was illegally added into IEBC's KIEMS to the advantage of Anne Waiguru.

Karua names IEBC, the county returning officer, Waiguru and Deputy Governor Peter Ndambiri as respondents in the petition.

Waiguru was announced the winner of Kirinyaga governor seat after garnering 159,606 votes against Karua's 120,341.
