Anne Waiguru Inks Deal for Sh5 Billion Industrial Hubs in Kirinyaga

Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru has inked a deal with private partners that will see construction of 10 industrial hubs worth Sh5 billion for value addition of agricultural produce.

In the deal, Kirinyaga county will provide land for setting up of the parks while private developers will foot facility and equipment costs.

Waiguru said that her government will pump in Sh1 billion into the investment that is targeting farmer groups and cooperative societies.

“The final model will be that of the private sector running the parks while we manage production and supply as the county government. The returns for the farmers will be 80 per cent and the 20 per cent will deducted and saved for their sacco,” said governor Anne Waiguru.

She said that, when complete, the venture would guarantee farmers a stable and structured market, improve their earnings at optimum as well as provide them saving for borrowing purposes.

The County government of Kirinyaga said the projects would be complete by the end of next year.

Upon full implementation, Kirinyaga agricultural sector is projected to have annual gross returns of Sh100 billion up from the current average of Sh25 billion.

This comes even as Nark Kenya leader Martha Karua filed a petition at the Kerugoya law court, seeking nullification of Waiguru's victory in the August 8th polls.

Karua claimed that more than 58,000 votes were fraudently entered to the Waiguru's vote basket using Kiems kits.
