David Musila Leads 18 Ukambani Leaders in Endorsing President Uhuru
Former Kutui senator David Musila has rallied more than 15 Ukambani region leaders behind President Uhuru Kenyatta as hr seeks re-election in the repeat poll ordered by the Supreme Court.
The former Kalonzo Musyoka-led Wiper Democratic Party chairman together with former Mwingi West MP Bernard Kitungi and 18 politicians allied to the National Super Alliance (Nasa) from Makueni on Wednesday threw their weight behind Uhuru and pledged to campaign for the re-election of President Uhuru Kenyatta.
Musila, who unsuccessfully contested for the Kitui governorship as an independent candidate, described the presidential repeat election ordered by the Supreme Court as blessing in disguise for the Kamba community to chart a different political course.
“We cannot afford to be outside the government for another five years, so the logical thing to do is to support the winning team and be assured of development,” Musila said in Kitui.
Speaking after a closed-door meeting with Kitui Jubilee leaders, Musila congratulated President Kenyatta for “winning the August election”, but said the Supreme Court robbed him the victory.
The leaders downplayed remarks by Governor Charity Ngilu that Uhuru will not get any votes in Ukambani in the fresh election saying: “We will seek votes for President Kenyatta across the entire county. He will once again win the October 17 repeat elections because his development record for Kenya and Kitui County is superior.’’Musila said.
The leaders warned their Nasa counterparts, including Governor Ngilu and Wiper MPs Gideon Mulyungi (Mwingi Central) and Makali Mulu (Kitui Central), against intimidating President Uhuru supporters in the region during the campaigns.
Musila said it would be “politically foolhardy” to endorse Nasa presidential candidate Raila Odinga and his running mate Kalonzo Musyoka.
“We can now preach the Jubilee gospel in Kitui much louder” said Ms Nyamai, the Kitui South MP.
