MP to Table Motion Seeking to Introduce Appeal Chamber of Supreme Court Decisions

A Kenyan MP says he intends to table a motion in the National Assembly seeking to have the Supreme Court of Kenya reconstituted following its decision to nullify the August 8th general elections.

Kitui East MP Nimrod Mbai Mbithuka said that there is no justice in the Supreme Court since their ruling overturning President Uhuru’s victory is final and cannot be appealed.

Mbai said that his motion will seek to introduce an appellate chamber, where Supreme Court verdicts can be appealed by anyone dissatisfied.

The MP said that the appellate chamber will be mandated to re-hear the presidential election petitions once a ruling has been delivered by the apex chamber.

Mbai is a former administration officer and was once assigned as the bodyguard to former cabinet minister Francis Nyenze, who is now the Kitui West MP.

He won the Kutui East MP seat on President Uhuru's Jubilee party ticket in the August 8th general election.

Earlier, Gatundu South MP Moses Kuria also signaled his intention to introduce a motion that requires a minimum of five judges to annul a presidential election.
